What  travel vaccinations do I need for my trip?

That's a complicated question. It depends upon what country you're visiting, where in that country you are going, what you are planning to do and your medical history (including your previous vaccination record). In general, travelers to developing nations should at a minimum be vaccinated against hepatitis a and typhoid fever.

I called the embassy, and they said I only needed a yellow fever vaccination.  Why do you say I need more travel vaccinations?

They mean what vaccination you need to get your visa. The only vaccination ever required to enter a country is a yellow fever vaccination. This is because they do not wish to start a yellow fever outbreak in the country. We are primarily concerned in how to best prevent you from becoming ill while traveling, so we advise you to be vaccinated against additional diseases which may be endemic to your destination country.

What travel vaccinations do you provide?

We provide all travel vaccinations. These include MMR, typhoid, tetanus, tdap, yellow fever, polio booster, meningitis, japanese encephalitis, rabies, hepatis a and hepatis b.

How much will my travel vaccinations cost?

We don't provide the costs of all of our individual vaccinations over the internet or the telephone, but we are reasonably priced.  The most frequently needed vaccinations are between $80 and $120 per dose.  You should budget about $100/dose for each vaccination that you think you need (+ your Visit Fee).

How long before I leave should I take my travel vaccinations?

Vaccines take a little while to become fully effective. Additionally, some vaccines require more than one dose. Ideally, we recommend that you begin your vaccinations at least 4-6 weeks before your trip.  Even if you didn't realize that you needed a vaccine until your day of departure, you should still be immunized since vaccines given at the last minute may still offer some protection.

Can I still travel with my chronic illness?

Yes, but since your situation will be unique you should take special precautions. These precautions include, but are not limited to:

  • Discuss your trip with your PCP and have a written plan for emergencies.

  • Carry recent x-rays, EKGs, and lab results in case they a needed by a physician treating you.

  • Carry the names, telephone numbers, and fax  numbers of all of your physicians.

  • Carry a medical summary sheet from your electronic health record. It will list all of your medications and  health conditions in case of emergency.

  • Carry an adequete supply of all of your medications. Take more than just enough for the planned trip...in case you are delayed.

I don't think I need a consultation. Will you just give me the travel vaccination that I want?

Yes! We offer 3 levels of travel vaccination visits-- Basic, Intermediate and Comprehensive Pre-Travel Health Consultation.  It sounds like you would like a Basic Visit.  If you really feel that you have all the information and prescriptions that you need, we will schedule you for a Basic Visit.  That said, please be aware that there are a great many factors involved in minimizing your risk of illness, and we believe everyone greatly benefits from a full Comprehenisve Pre-Travel Health Consultation.
